There are not enough words---or stars---to thank Tim and Swedemasters for fixing my a/c. I trusted a local mechanic in 2014. He told me it would either be 1200 or 2000 buck fix but that in any case, they needed to tear the thing apart (which would be 350 or so). I had been treated well by this mechanic and they'd always done great work. Moral of the story: 1) ALWAYS get a second opinion and 2) NEVER trust a Saab (especially with a/c) to a non-Swedish mechanic/shop. I have been suffering without a/c a few months a year in LA for 8 years. I moved to NYC in 2015 so it wasn't full-time but I didn't care what it cost. Since I've gotten new brakes, radiator, power steering, and intend to keep this Saab 9/3 2007 2.0T (doesn't feel like a turbo anymore!) for five or more years, even 2K would have been worth it. They cannot find the leak but suspect there is a very minor one. The dye will help in the event that the refrigerant leaks out. I'm still in shock. I wish I had come to Swedemasters back in 2014.
